Artist's Comments

In my studio one day, I was looking for a subject to do as a warm-up painting before I tackled a larger project. I dug through a pile of reference photos I had and found an image I had clipped from an old National Geographic. The story was about Madrid or something or other, but I liked this image because the forced perspective in the original pic made it look more like a stage set than a street scene. I also quite liked the cast of characters- the priest, the gruff store owner, the goofy mandolin player. Anyway, I painted this little scene on unstretched canvas, hence the warping in the photo. Acrylic on canvas, about 4'x4'.

Love all the texture and detail on this! How long did it take?

Perspective, colors, tone looks great. Why is traditonal art ignored so much on DeviantART? Traditional paintings have more "soul" then digital. Every traditional painter has a different brush stroke.

Wonderful!

And I echo the different comments & question from kyria and boggart.

Hehe, I dunno what's better, that it brings up connotations of movies or of spaghetti!

Thank you kindly! It's rare that I get a compliment on texture. ^^ It actually only took me a couple afternoons of frantic painting to complete, hehe.

Thanks for your awesome comments- and for the favourite! I agree, non-digital art should be given more attention.
p.s. love your squid.

Thanks very much, Cy! See above for my answers.

This is really lovely. I love the different feels you've given each of the people.
